Our Vision
One of the longer-term objectives of BAHE is to start a charitable organisation that supports young people, in particular, young girls in Sierra Leone, to develop their educational and vocational skills through providing safe spaces in which girls can come together to learn new skills, develop vocational skills that will help support them to stay in education and to provide support and guidance on health-related matters.
We aim to provide each girl with a specially crafted bag containing important information on their health, such as reproductive and sexual health, including protection against teenage pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, personal and social relationships advice, and guidance. We also aim to develop skills in digital and mobile literacy through developing locally-led computing workshop clubs.
Why Sierra Leone?
Sierra Leone is a country that is particularly close to our founder, Lisa’s heart, given her experience of working there during the Ebola epidemic, together with her background in global health and commitment to improving health. Additionally, one of her close friends she made during her time in Sierra Leone, who was highly supportive of the study she worked on, Mr Abdul Lebbie, whom I worked closely within the Port Loko District, who is now deceased, told me of his plans to improve the skills and opportunities of young girls in the country and work he had done previously and planned to do to support young girls and those orphaned by the epidemic, so it is the intention that his legacy can be continued through this work.
